The role of your doctor

Your doctor plays an extremely important role in the outcome of your disability case. First, your medical records will greatly influence whether your case is approved or denied. This means that you must tell your doctor the nature, severity and frequency of all of your symptoms. Second, your doctor must write down that information in your medical chart.

It is unlikely that Social Security will find that you are disabled unless you have the active support of at least one of your doctors. Therefore, before you apply, we recommend that you discuss the subject of a disability application with your doctors. Do not hesitate to ask them directly to support your disability case.
