Chronic pain conditions

Chronic Pain Syndrome

Chronic pain syndrome is a medical condition that causes excessive pain, though the causes of pain may be varied and some unexplained. When you suffer from chronic pain you may be unable to handle day-to-day tasks, manage your household, or maintain gainful employment. At Disability Benefits Law Center, P.C., we have experience helping individuals who suffer from chronic pain pursue government disability benefits to support themselves and their families.

We understand the very real symptoms and consequences of chronic pain syndrome and can help you pursue Social Security disability benefits.

Chronic pain syndrome sufferers often experience different kinds of chronic pain from various causes. While in rare cases the pain is psychological (telling you that you are in pain when nothing is physically wrong), most cases are physically based and caused after an injury, surgery or disease. Our attorneys are experienced in Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income cases complicated by difficult diagnoses.

We are experienced in disability claims involving Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) and other chronic pain conditions, including:

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

One variation of chromic pain syndrome is complex regional pain syndrome, also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy, or RSD. CRPS usually affects an arm, a leg, or another area of the body. The pain is often marked by burning and may result in swelling, discoloration or hypersensitivity. You may also experience a change in hair and nail growth, muscle spasms, and joint stiffness over time.

Medical treatment and disability benefits for chronic pain

If you or someone you love experiences chronic pain after an injury or illness or without explanation, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Documenting your illness with medical treatment is important not only for your recovery, but to ensure that you qualify for the disability benefits you and your family need. Treatment may include pain management programs, medication, stimulators to mask pain, ice or heat packs, acupuncture, or chiropractic assistance.
